The Importance of Foot Health Awareness
With 26 bones, 33 joints and more than 100 tendons, muscles and ligaments, feet are the most integral and vulnerable part of the body. Most people are unaware of the toll that regular, day-to-day activities take on their feet. Walking puts up to 1.5 times your bodyweight on your feet, your feet log approximately 1,000 miles per year, and feet cushion up to one million pounds of pressure during one hour of strenuous exercise. It’s no wonder foot ailments are among the most common health problems.
Every year more than 14.2 million people visit physicians with foot, toe and ankle problems. Although some of these issues can be traced to heredity, many stem from a lifetime of neglect and abuse. Studies show that 75 percent of Americans experience serious foot problems at some time in their lives, but only a fraction seek medical treatment. Paying more attention to your feet can not only prevent painful foot ailments, but stave-off more serious health issues.
Keeping feet healthy requires developing good habits by regularly exercising proper foot care. If you aren’t already "foot health aware" Microplane® Personal Care invites you to browse the following pages and Transform Your Soles®!
